Wet work on the Coast to Coast path
Fix the Fells rangers and volunteers spent a day working on the Coast to Coast path and in spite of the rain and midges we got a lot done!
The Coast to Coast path attracts thousands of walkers each year and Fix the Fells are working hard to ensure it stays in a good state of repair for everyone. Last week we headed out to start work on three sections on Tongue Gill, which links Grasmere to Grisedale Tarn.
Stone-pitching was repaired in two places and further up we did some landscaping work involving turf and rocks to remove a new path that was developing and encourage people to keep to the existing path. All this work means we are protecting the fragile vegetation to the sides of the path to stop it eroding, which in turn prevents soil from finding its way into the streams and becks.
There is more work to be done on this section of path and we will be back again later this year.
