Celebrating the Coast to Coast
In recognition and celebration of the 40th anniversary of Wainwright’s Coast to Coast book, Fix the Fells rangers and volunteers are out on a repair and maintenance mission on the Coast to Coast path.
Friday 27th and Saturday 28th of April will see teams leave on “drain runs” from Stonethwaite, Grasmere and Patterdale where drains will be cleared, stone-pitching will be swept of stones and minor repairs undertaken. With the snow only recently melting, it will be a busy two days to get the paths back into shape for the summer.
Fix the Fells rangers and volunteers look after 28 kms of path on the Coast to Coast route and over the next three years, the Linley Shaw Foundation are supporting our work on this route by donating £4,000 for materials and protective clothing for volunteers.
Tanya Oliver, Fix the Fells Programme Manager said: “It is wonderful that Wainwright’s Coast to Coast book has encouraged hundreds of people to follow that route each year. Our Fix the Fells rangers and volunteers are working hard to ensure the path is kept in a good state of repair for all those people out to enjoy the walk.
“Our sincere thanks go to the Linley Shaw Foundation for their generous contribution to support this work and to the volunteers and ramgers who are out in all weathers fixing the fells.”
